Who is this "Jac O' the North"?

Who is this Jac o' the North? who writes constantly about the impending extinction of the Welsh nation?

Who sometimes appears to "demonise" English incomers either  as English second home geriatrics or problem families being dumped on Welsh speaking areas by English authorities.

Is he talking about people like me a anglophone Welshman with English great grandparents.

Even if I disagree with much of what he says I understand his concerns and they should be discussed.

Poor old Rowan

WADI KHARRAR, JORDAN - FEBRUARY 20: Archbishop...
WADI KHARRAR, JORDAN - FEBRUARY 20: Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams prays whilst presiding over a service at the Baptism site at the River Jordan, on February 20, 2010, in Wadi Kharrar, Jordan. Williams, who expressed his fears over the 'eroding Christian presence in the Holy Land', layed the foundation stone for the Anglican Church of St. John the Baptist at the site which is to be built on land donated by Jordan's King Abdullah. Poor old Rowan Williams whenever he makes one of his old Testament prophet type condemnations nobody takes him seriously. He looks the part with his peppered beard, and with his socialist type background of a raging Welsh revolutionary. Unfortunately it’s the role with its establishment trappings, he gets flak from both sides the dawkins type atheist who thinks that religion does not belong in the public square, then the Christian fundamentalist who think that he has conspired with the secular left to destroy traditional Christianity. They are both wrong the Civil Rights movement not only in the US but the anti  apartheid movement of in South Africa (Desmond Tutu, Trevor Huddleston CR) and Bob Morgan in Ely, and Bill Morgan in Merthyr Tudfil) all these were inspired by the Social Gospel and the old Testament Prophets who condemned those who oppressed the poor. Dawkins read just part of the Bible about the miracles and the rantings of Leviticus, and ignore the ethics that is all through the Bible which thunders Justice. The Fundies are wrong because they are fixated on sin and revenge. I am afraid that Rowan’s heart is in the right place, but his body was not, he was a lame and weak leader who was no pastor and could not lead, and this was true of both Monmouth and Wales, he tried to be everyone’s friend. I wish him all the best, I was sorry when he lost his best friend Chris Morgan it was a grievous loss.

rain rain go away come again another day! Not

Forest fire this week in Manitou Springs picture taken by friends living there.

“Rain, rain go away come again another day” so goes the rhyme of my rain filled childhood in Wales. However since living in Colorado and Kansas in the middle of America, in what used to be known as the “great American Desert” , and desert it is, despite being the bread basket of America, however with the lack of rain and moisture we could end up as the basket case of America.

Every time I hear complaints from  friends and family about all the rain they get I think to myself how lucky they are, because this gives Wales one of its most precious resources, its water. Something that does not pollute but gives life.

The Mighty Arkansas River in south Dodge City in 1965 it burst it banks and flooded most of the city.

I will show them alternative. A dry summer last year when it was a 100F plus for over 40 days and the possibility of another one, except we had more rain thgis spring and as I type it is certainly more humid than last year.

I have lived in Colorado and Kansas for the last 20 odd years (except for 2002-05 and 2007-08 when I was back in Wales), Colorado has moisture at least because of the mountains and snow. Kansas is a different matter, we have very little snow and rain.

Colorado has been a tinderbox in Fort Collins, Este Park (home of the infamous hotel in the “Shining”)

And fires just outside Manitou Springs.

So when my Welsh complain bout the rain just think what it must be like without it!?

This ol church

St Timothy's Church a church in the parish of Caerau with Ely was built in 1957 and consecrated by then Bishop of Llandaff, Dr Glyn Simon. This was the church that I grew up in, when it was built it was meant to be a temporary building, and there was a building fund for a permanent church. Unfortunately a bit of financial mismanagement by the clergy, and a lack of growth in people made sure that would never happen. When we joined there was an average attendance of 30-40 which is what it is today. Though I understand that there is a healthy youth group.http://www.caerauwithely.org/

Cymru Fydd and Plaid Cymru a tale of 2 failures

The problem you have with Wales is not do with the size (even though that is what people say all the time) it's whether it's financially sustainable, can we attract enough business or even create it to generate enough revenue to be able to survive. can we, I think we can but with another govt at the helm. because this one is quite happy for our nation to be a welfare basket case to England. I was reading a book by Cymru Fydd. Cymru Fydd was the  Welsh Liberal Party that promoted home rule and Welsh culture, as opposed to the South Wales Liberal Federation, (led by Alderman Robert Bird Mayor of Cardiff) was led by David Lloyd George, T E Ellis and O M Edwards. I used to think that it was the equivalent of Welsh labour. I was wrong it was the forerunner of Plaid Cymru. I think it's enmd came because it saw the English immigrants as a destructive influence instead of making them welcome in Wales. It devalued their religion, their drinking habits, and their language.

Watergate 40 years on, with Dick Nixon and Booby Woodward

Richard Nixon (1963)

I almost forgot how time flies by! ITS 40 years since the infamous Watergate break ins. I am sure we shall be seeing Bob Woodward wall to wall talking about “Deepthroat” and what an evil fiend Richard Nixon was.

Yep he was highly flawed and he did some bad things ( I guess overthrowing the highly incompetent Salvador Allende would count against him as he was cruelly killed), Watergate being the worst.

However this same odious little toady Woodward wrote a gushing book about George W Bush's invasion of Iraq, without addressing the infamous “patriot Act” which legalized some of the “doings” of Watergate like wiretapping and bugging etc. I read Peter Black AM reharshing of this on his blog, and I wondered what peter would have thought about some of the happenings of the last 20 years which would make Nixon look like a saint.

What about Nixon's achievements. Peace with China, the end of the Vietnam war, the EPA extension of Medicare, and his own attempt at solving the healthcare problem, tatht was even more radical than Obamacare.

I believe he brought more good than evil, and Woodward just stopped and stagnated with his investigative journalism.

Nixon also advocated the end of the embargo with Cuba something none of our current entities have dared to do, he was a man of vision but highly flawed.

Today he wopuld have been condemned as a liberal.

Wither Cardiff City (Football Club)

Club badge used for the 2007–08 season
Club badge used for the 2007–08 season (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

So Cardiff City has sold its heritage for bags of money from its Malaysian owners. My parents and their respective siblings supported City for years. (though my parents switched off years ago, my dad kept following Glamorgan, snooker and Rugby, my mum Rugby internationals), in fact I even remember my dad saying as long ago as the 1980s that money was ruining football, even more than the violence. This has now become very apparent now with Cardiff City. I still have a old CCFC shirt that my dad gave me with “South Wales Echo” on front, and that was bad enough but at least it was local.

I work with a guy who sells football kits up at our local mall, English premier league kits are very popular with the large Mexican population here and you see a lot of Manchester United shirts around here and the local football clubs take premier sides names. I had told my friend I would get CCFC kits for him to sell at the mall, but you think that anyone will wear red shirts with Malaysia on it, no way, Red is the iconic color of Manchester United. I wont bother.

In fact how strong is the support for Cardiff City in Cardiff itself? When I was working at Tesco at Culverhouse Cross any supported Manchester, or Chelsea etc.

I read that Cllr Heather Joyce the new leader of Cardiff Council said that it “made good business sense” Sounding just like some Thatcherite clone, its not a business venture its a club, and it represents Cardiff. There are US teams that are fan owned such is the backlash at the idea of sport as a business where ordinary supporters are squeezed and cannot afford season tickets.

Is there really no Cardiff millionaires who could invest in there home team? Michael Moritz, Howard Stringer? No?

Cardiff City Football Club is dead and its Requiem Mass will be offered
